Careers as an Agriculturist

A professional in the science, practice, and management of agriculture and agribusiness is known as an agriculturist, agriculturalist, agrologist, or agronomic. Agricultural scientist, agricultural manager, agriculture officer in banks, agricultural planner, and agriculture researcher are some of the other titles for the profession.

Agriculturists' major duty is to oversee agricultural projects and initiatives, usually in agribusiness planning or research for the benefit of farms, food, and agribusiness-related businesses. Agriculturists who work for the government as public agriculturists or technical consultants for policymaking are commonly known as public agriculturists.

Agriculturists can also help farmers and farm workers with technical issues like creating crop calendars and work flows to improve farm production, tracing agricultural market channels, prescribing fertilizers and pesticides to avoid misuse, and aligning for organic accreditation or national agricultural quality standards.

Interested candidates who want to become Agriculturist should do their biology with physics and chemistry in their 10 + 2 / intermediate. Post completion, they have to give an entrance exam for admission to B.Sc in agriculture. Post completion students can pursue their post - graduation in agriculture or agri – management. Further they can pursue their doctoral research in their field of interest.

Alternatively B.Sc (Agri) grads can join in banks as agri officers, as banks are mandated to give loans to farming community and these professionals play a major role in giving those loans. Other agri business companies like pesticides, fertilizer and other companies also hire agri and agri business graduates for different professions.
