Interior design is the art and science of improving a building's interior to make it healthier and more aesthetically pleasant for the people who use it. An interior designer is a professional who designs, analyses, coordinates, and manages such renovations. Conceptual design, space planning, site inspections, programming, research, interacting with project stakeholders, construction management, and design execution are all part of the interior design process.
Interior designing has started to emerge as a profession from early 20th century, when need for aesthetics was felt. Interior designers are supposed to have knowledge of textiles, materials, 2 – D & 3 – D software applications, structures, safety & health. Duration of certificate and diploma courses vary from 3 – 12 months depending on the program chosen. Bachelor of Design and Master of Design are graduate and post graduate courses for 3 and 2 years respectively.
Post successful completion of these courses, students have opportunities with interior decorator, architecture firms, retailers, event management companies, exhibition companies, construction companies. Though in the initial years, careers in interior designing is not rewarding, but throws up range of opportunities with a rewarding career as they learn & grow in their career.
