USMLE Step 2 Eligibility:

• For international students who want to apply for USMLE Step 2 exam, should be enrolled / have completed their MBBS from a medical school, which is listed in World Directory of Medical School. Candidates can check if their medical school is listed in World Directory of Medical School or not on WDOMS website.
• Student should meet eligibility criteria set for ECFMG certification.
• Student must meet eligibility criteria at the time of the application for USMLE step 2 registration.

USMLE Step 2 Exam Dates:

For Step 2 CK, the rules are the same as the USMLE step 1 examination. Students will have to choose a three-month eligibility period and appear for the USMLE exam dates in those months. As per USMLE regulations, students cannot choose the first fortnight of January or major public holidays as their USMLE dates for eligibility.

The eligibility period for USMLE Step 2 CS examination is 12 months as students will have to go to the USA to take the said examination.

Listed below is the information about the subjects and its weightage range for the respective subject for Step 2 CK:

• USMLE Step 2 CK is a one-day examination just like USMLE step 1 exam. The test duration is 9 hours, divided into 8 blocks of one hour each. Each of the blocks will have not more than 40 questions, and the total number of questions will be 350. The questions will be MCQ type.

Step 2 CK:

• USMLE Step 2 exam has emphasis on patient care under supervision. It is assessment of candidate’s knowledge of clinical science, to be applied in patient care and disease prevention.
• In Step 2 CS, the candidate have to interact with a standardised patient, diagnose and treat the patient. A standardised patient is a person who is trained to act like a real patient.

Step 2 CS:

For Step 2 CS, candidate will have to listen to 12 patients, communicate with them, diagnose them and professionally treat them. The time duration with each patient will be 15 minutes each.

How to Prepare for USMLE Step 2 CK and CS?

There are no sanctioned limited courses for USMLE Step 2. Have a good look at USMLE Exam Pattern, USMLE sample questions, and prepare for the exam by practicing on USMLE practice tests.

Complete as many practice tests as you can, and go through your Question Bank.

For Step 2 CS preparation, understand the scoring system. It is based on three components: Spoken English Proficiency, Integrated Clinical Encounter, Communication and Interpersonal Skills (CIS). These consist of mostly how you communicate with the patient and reach a conclusion afterwards. Practice that with your peers.

USMLE Step 2 CS results are declared as Pass / Fail. There is no USMLE Scores for USMLE Step 2 CS. USMLE Step 2 CK, just as Step 1 is scored in 3 digits. There is no minimum qualifying figure set for the candidates, but the latest qualifying scores for USMLE Step 2 CK is 209.
