Subharam Govt Degree College, Punganur Chittoor Dist., Andhra Pradesh was established in 1983 and named after the reputed philanthropist of this area Sri Sannuthi Rama Murthy garu and his wife Smt. Subhasini garu (Chairman of Subharam Trust, Bangalore). The college began functioning from the academic year 1983-84 with B.A (History, Economics & Political Science) and B.Com (General) courses with a sanctioned strength of 80 and 60 respectively. Presently the college is offering under graduate programmes in the following combinations Viz.,
Under a succession of highly competent Principals and motivated staff, this college has always been aware of the responsibility of carrying the vision and mission of improving the standards of rural students of this backward area.
These courses were started to meet the growing needs of the present global needs. Besides these, the college also conducted a few certificate courses like communication skills and soft skills through Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC), under Add-on Courses, Certificate Course on Travel and Tourism Management commenced.
This institution has a lush green campus of 14.5 acres including a play ground and good academic ambience. It has 12 class rooms, 2 computer labs, 1 library and UGC career guidance cell and well equipped gym. At present there are 7 permanent lecturers, 3 contract lecturer and 2 guest lecturers. There are 311 students including 73 girls.
The college is granted permanent affiliation by Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati on 23-01-2008 and it is also accredited by NAAC with ‘B’ grade on 25-06-2016. And It has also been included under sections 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act 1956 vide Lr. F.8.195/2008 (CPP-I) dated. 17-09-2008. Now the institution is poised for III (Third Cycle) Re-accreditation from NAAC.
