The Kondapalli Thathi Reddy Women's College was founded in 1970 in memory of Sri. Kondapalli Thathi Reddy, father of the primary donor, Sri. B. Brahmananda Reddy, philanthropist and significant land owner cum rice miller in Gudivada.

This was the first women's college established near Gudivada, a place of immense social, cultural, literary, and spiritual significance. It is the birthplace of several literary geniuses such as Tripuraneni Rama Swamy and Jaaladi, as well as cinema stars such as N. T. Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and K. Satya Narayana.

The college was registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, bearing No 84, 1968, dated 16th December 1968, District Registrar, Krishna. The college was acknowledged by GO MS NO 1206, dated June 12, 1970, and was allowed to Grant-in-aid on July 1, 1977.

The institution is located on 10.96 acres and features a pucca two-story concrete structure, RCC classrooms, a library, well-equipped science labs, an English lab, a skill development lab, and an imposing indoor stadium.

The college is connected with Krishna University Machilipatnam and now offers six undergraduate programs.

It has an Acharya Nagarjuna University Distance Education Center, which offers undergraduate and graduate programs.

The college's alumni have settled in many fields and positions such as government servants, doctors, engineers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and teachers, among others. In 2005, the college was accredited with a B+ grade.
