Davanagere is home to the University BDT College of Engineering (UBDTCE), which is located in the state of Karnataka's central region. It was the state's only Government Engineering College when it opened in 1951. The college was named after the donors Bramhappa Devendrappa Tanvanappanavar (BDT), who gave money to help build the buildings. On September 24, 1956, the College building was finished and inaugurated. On February 24, 2011, the college became the first Constituent Engineering College of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. In the year 2009, the AICTE recognised the college, and NBA accredited several undergraduate courses. The NBA certification procedure is now underway for all departments.
