The Government Engineering College, Talakal was sanctioned by the Government of Karnataka in 2014 to be created in Talakal, in the Koppal District of Karnataka, with the primary purpose of imparting technical education to the rural masses and downtrodden in order to improve their living standards. It will be governed by Bangalore's Director of Technical Education and linked with VTU Belagavi. With an initial intake of 60 students, the institute plans to provide five undergraduate courses: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It has applied to the AICTE for approval of its courses to begin in the 2019-20 academic year.
