Govt. College, Malappuram was founded in 1972 as the district's premier arts and science college in the government sector. The college is affiliated with the University of Calicut and offers nine undergraduate courses and six graduate courses. The college currently employs 120 people and has approximately 1600 students. So far, the institution has paved the way for higher education for thousands of youths who have been active in almost every aspect of life at the district, state, and national levels. The large number of students who have graduated from here and are now working in the Middle East and Gulf countries attests to their international significance. The College relocated to its current location in 1986. The main building that now houses the college was previously the district civil station, which housed the district collector's office and various district offices of the Kerala government. Aside from the main building, science, PG, and library blocks are built at different times to accommodate more classrooms, libraries, and lab facilities.
