Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Engineering was founded in 1993 under the auspices of the L.B.S Centre for Science and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram (www.lbscentre.kerala.gov.in).
A Governing Body and an Executive Committee govern the Centre. The Chairman of the Governing Body is the Chief Minister of Kerala, and the Vice-Chairman is the Minister of Education. The Chairman of the Executive Committee is the Principal Secretary for Higher Education, and the Vice-Chairman is the Director of Technical Education. The Director of the Centre serves as the Member Secretary of both organizations. He is the Centre's Executive Director. To assist the Director in administration and financial matters, there are Joint Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, an Administrative Officer, a Finance Officer, and other subordinate staff.
LBSCEK is a self-supporting engineering college run by the Kerala government. The campus is located in Povval, about 12 kilometers from Kasaragod.
