The first engineering college established by the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education (CAPE), which the Keralan government founded in 1999, is College of Engineering Vadakara (CEV), formerly known as Co-operative Institute of Technology, Vadakara. This initiative was started with the broad goal of helping the government provide deserving students in the State with high-quality education while minimizing financial burden.

CEV is dedicated to the policy of the governments of India and Kerala to uplift the underprivileged groups in society by providing students with professional education. CEV is thus situated in Kerala's Malabar region, which is socially and educationally backward. Along the Palayad-Maniyur road, 13 km from Vadakara town, is where CEV is situated in the village of Maniyur at Kurunthodi.Approximately 27 acres of lush green and picturesque surroundings surround CEV, which is located on the top of the hill known as "Kakoramala." The campus is 14 km from Vadakara, the closest railway station.
