Founded 35 years ago and named after the great visionary Sree Sankaracharya, Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College is located in Irapuram, a tranquil and remote village about 30 kilometers from the sprawling city of Cochin. Adi Sankara's birthplace, Kaladi, is nearby, so the very idea of this circumstance has a spiritual undertone. Our campus boasts a perfect learning environment and is located far from cities and congested highways. The College has a campus that spans 18 acres of prime land in these sylvan plains, and it is located in a haven of natural beauty.
The SREE SANKARA TRUST, which was established in 1965 to promote higher education in accordance with the teachings of the great saint, is responsible for managing the college. The Nambuthiris, or Keraladwijas in Sanskrit, who are the traditional Brahmins of Kerala, own and run the trust. The Namboothiris were traditional scholars and teachers in addition to their Vedic duties, according to reliable history. Any village in Kerala could have a Namboothiri house, which served as a gurukula, where instruction in subjects like mathematics, astrology, architecture, ethics, and airbed was given.
Many of Nambuthiris' books on these topics are still regarded and used as the foundational works of knowledge in these fields. Many of these foundational works, which were written on palm leaves, are still on display at the manuscripts library in Trivandrum. This custom may have inspired our ancestors to consider founding a trust to advance higher education in honor of Adi Sankara, who was also a superb educator.
The trust's founders, led by Sri. P.N. Namboodiri, a lifelong employee of Bharat Sevak Samaj and a social worker at the grassroots level, were importunate in choosing underdeveloped and educationally backward rural areas to establish their institutions. Both of the Trust's other colleges are located in remote, rural areas of Kerala. These demonstrate our founders' dedication to the cause of rural upliftment.
