The Nair Service Society, the leading educational agency and social organisation, established N.S.S. College, Pandalam as one of three premier institutions of higher education. The late Padmabhooshan Mannathu Padmanabhan, the organization's founder, was a great visionary and social reformer who believed that education is the most effective means of social reform.
Through its vision "Sreyohi Jnanam Abhyasath," the college maintains its tradition and identity in the higher education scenario.
The college's mission is to educate and illuminate the young generation with values and tradition. The college was founded in February 1949 and began operating as a second grade college in 1950, offering intermediate courses from the University of Travancore.
Additional courses in the Degree and Post Graduate levels were introduced in subsequent years, and the college is now recognised as a special grade Post Graduate College affiliated to the University of Kerala, with a total of sixteen Degree Courses and seven Post Graduate Programmes, as well as a research programme in Zoology. Throughout its long history of over 65 years, the College has attempted to meet the academic needs of the student community while also spreading social and cultural warmth to the larger world outside.
The institution has a proven track record of providing value-added and value-based education while remaining sensitive to changing educational, social, and market demands. Because research is the most promising area of higher education, the college takes special care to foster a research culture among faculty and students.
