Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, is a premier educational institution dedicated to the most revered memory of the Father of the Nation, and was founded in 1948 by the Nair Service Society. It is one of the largest and oldest higher education institutions in Kerala's capital city, run by the state's largest educational agency, the Nair Service Society.

The mission of Mahatma Gandhi College is to provide value-added quality education to all, with a special emphasis on the economically disadvantaged segments of society, in accordance with the motto "Sa Vidya Ya Vimukthaye." It has 13 UG, 10 PG, and 7 research programmes in the faculties of basic science, humanities, and social sciences, with over 2500 students studying in various disciplines.

In the first phase of accreditation, NAAC accredited Mahatma Gandhi College at the 'A' level, which was maintained in the second phase as well. The University Grants Commission designated the college as a CPE (College with Potential for Excellence) and awarded a one-crore grant for the development of infrastructure and the implementation of various programmes in the first phase. In 2018, the college completed its third phase of accreditation and received a B+ grade with a CGPA of 2.73. The DST selected the institution for three FIST (Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure in Universities and Higher Educational Institutions) programmes (Department of Science and Technology, Government of India).
