The Government College (Autonomous) is located on the banks of the Godavari River in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India. The University Grants Commission named it the College with the Most Potential for Excellence in 2016.
The Government Arts College began as a District school in 1853 and was upgraded to a Provincial school of the Madras Presidency in 1868. It became a college in 1885. It was first affiliated with the University of Madras in 1891, and then with Andhra University in 1926.
