Government Degree College, Pithapuram was started in December, 2008, with the combination of four groups such as B.A.(HEP), B.Com., B.Sc. (M.P.C.) and B.Sc. (B.Z.C.). In the beginning, the total students strength was 34. At present i.e., in 2015-16 the total strength has gone up to 326. At Present the college is running in RRBHR Govt. Junior College, Pithapuram under shift system.
Every year in the college exhibiting good progress in Admissions and Results. Most of the students are also getting recognition and selections in the University Level and South Zone Level Sports & Games since 2012.
Though there is a limited accommodation the Principal has taken initiative and established Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC) Lab for the benefit of the students to give training both job purpose and for Higher Education.
In the 2015-16, our College got good recognition regarding its progress the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Hyderabad selected for Special pilot project TISS. Commissionerate selected 100 colleges in the State. Out of 100 Seven Colleges are selected from our District. Our College is one of the Seven Colleges.
